Pony Trekking &
Horse Riding

Offering guided Treks into the heart of the Elan Valley on Horseback since 1966.

We really do have one of the most beautiful parts of the country right on our doorstep and so we take different routes through the hills, valleys, rivers and woodlands each day.

We explore parts of the area that would be difficult to get to on foot, giving you the opportunity to experience the views, wildlife and tranquillity that the Elan Valley has to offer on horseback. We take out all levels of riding ability from novice to advanced riders.

All our horses are homebred, backed and schooled by us. Our herd ranges from a wide variety of horses in every size, shape and colour so we can always find a horse or pony that suits you.

The majority of our horses are Gypsy Vanner cobs who are known for their loving, kind and patient nature. We have a team of qualified, knowledgeable guides who are always willing and happy to help with any questions or problems you may have.

This will be our 57th year in the trekking business and we have been approved and recommended by the BHS since 1972.  The business was established in 1966 by the late Elwyn Collard and is now run by his Granddaughter, Alice Collard who shares the same love for horses that he once did.

We run on a seasonal basis, our season starts in May and ends in mid-September. However, the exact start and finishing dates do depend on the weather and ground conditions.

Our weight limit is 14 stone and our age limit is 6 years old.

  • The Half Day trek is our most popular ride for all ages and abilities. This trek is approximately 2 hours long and gives you the opportunity to experience the views and tranquillity that the Elan Valley has to offer. We take different routes each day, riding through the rivers, woods and over the hills experiencing a variety of different terrain along the way.

  • The 1 Hour trek is perfect if you aren’t quite feeling as adventurous. This trek takes you on a gentle ride down the country lanes on more level terrain. The views however don’t waiver, they are just as outstanding.

  • Pony Pobbles are perfect for younger children wanting to ride a pony for the first time or to gain more experience. The children will get to know the ponies they will be riding, we also give them the opportunity to brush them before we leave the yard to go on a quiet amble down the country lanes.

  • We hire out our guides to those that want to bring their own horse or pony. Hiring a guide means that you're on a safely planned route with qualified guides that are knowledgeable of the area. The Welsh hills can be a very dangerous place if you don’t know your way around so hiring a guide is the best way to explore the Elan Valley without the worry of getting lost or ending up in ending up in any sticky situations.

Rates vary depending on length of route and number of riders.

All horses and riders must be insured.

All horses and ponies must be vaccinated.

What will you need to bring?

  • We provide approved riding hats at our Centre. If you wish to bring your own hat, it will be checked on arrival to see whether or not it is up to the current standard. If it isn’t you will be unable to ride in it.

  • You need to wear full-length clothing (no shorts, skirts or dresses) and be equipped for changes in the weather.

  • We provide riding boots if you do not have a sturdy boot with a small heel.

We had a half day trek, in the sunshine, through some of the most stunning countryside Wales has to offer. The horses were really calm and beautifully looked after. Alice, our guide, was completely wonderful - thank you for an unforgettable experience. Money well spent!

Alice was a fantastic guide and really made me and my daughter feel at ease on our first pony trek. Neither of us had an experience riding and she made the whole trek so comfortable. The trek itself was amazing, going along the paths and through a river. Thank you so much for an amazing day out.
